Rachel Bilson is heading back to the south- well, sort of- as she is set to join the cast of Nashville for the second half of season five.
Bilson will join the show alongside Empire star Kaitlin Doubleday. This announcement came shortly after the mid-season finale aired in the U.S, a few weeks ago.
In a press release, executive producer and showrunner Marshall Herskovitz stated: ‘We welcome Rachel and Kaitlin into our incredibly talented ensemble. We fondly anticipate the second half of the season filled with surprising twists and turns that make Nashville so beloved by the fans.’
Both actresses have posted hints about what sort of role they will be playing on Instagram.
Bilson posted a photo of the music label Highway 65 which was founded by Rayna James (played by lead actress Connie Britton). “Music city, here I come,” she wrote. Whilst, Doubleday, opted to share a photo of the renowned Bluebird Cafe. “This will definitely be a change of pace!” she wrote.
The news comes after the death of a major character in the mid-season finale.
According to Variety, a source revealed Rachel will have a recurring role playing a character named Alyssa.
This pic is a reunion between her and her OC co-star Chris Carmack, who plays Will Lexington on the country music series. “Welcome to Nashville B****… this is how it’s done in Tennessee,” reads Bilson’s caption, which is a reference to Chris’ infamous line fromThe OC.
The actor tweeted: ‘Can’t wait to work with Rachel again… it’s been a while! “Welcome to Nashville……. darlin’!”‘
Nashville will return with new episodes later in the summer.
We can’t wait to see what the upcoming season has in store for both Rachel and Kaitlyn!
